As bank bonds mature, investors ponder next investment spot

Investors bought hundreds of billions of dollars in U.S. dollar-denominated, government-guaranteed bonds issued by European and U.S. banks last year. Those bonds are starting to mature and be repaid, prompting many bond investors to seek another place to invest their cash. "There are still a lot of investors looking to buy government-guaranteed debt," said Sanjeev Handa, head of global public markets at TIAA-CREF. "Last year, they were able to buy government-guaranteed bank debt, but now they are looking for alternatives to that."
