Nearly 10% of U.S. banks are in trouble, FDIC says

The number of institutions on the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.'s list of problem banks reached 775 by March 31, up from 702 at the end of last year. Small, community banks made up most of the list, the FDIC said. The total was the highest since 1992, when it reached 1,066.
