Productivity increases, jobless claims decrease in U.S.

Claims for unemployment benefits declined, while the productivity of U.S. workers increased more than expected in the first quarter. Productivity increased at an annual rate of 3.6%, compared with a 2.6% forecast from economists polled by Bloomberg News. The number of workers applying for unemployment benefits last week declined 7,000 to 444,000.
