Senate Democrats lose vote to move forward with reform bill
U.S. Senate Democrats were unable to win the 60 votes needed to end debate on an overhaul of financial regulation and move toward a final vote on the legislation. Sens. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., and Russell Feingold, D-Wis., joined Republicans in opposing the procedural measure. Democrats said they will try again. "I remain optimistic," said Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn. "I am confident that we will have another vote on this, that there will be the necessary votes to allow us to have a final vote on the passage of this legislation."
