Wall Street gets hit by wave of selling in final hour of trading

Wall Street edged toward an official bear market as a sell-off picked up steam at end of trading Monday. When the market closed, the Standard & Poor's 500 was down 13.7% from its April high, and the Dow Jones industrial average was down 12.4%. Both indexes were below their 200-day trend line.
